Gola bhaat (गोळा भात) is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe specifically from Vidarbh region.You can make rice normally( white rice) . But this type (yellow rice) they prepare during Navratri .

- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 cup besan
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp Ajwain(carrom seeds)
- as needed curry leaves
- to taste Salt
- 3 tbsp groundnut oil
- 1 tbsp curd
Instructions to make to make Gola bhaat
- First wash rice separately in a bowl and discard the water completely with the help of strainer. Keep aside.


- In a thick bottom vessel add oil, mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds stop crackling add turmeric powder and immediately add rice. Roast for 2 mins, add 2 cups of water.Add salt. And let it boil.

- Now in a separate bowl take besan and add all spices and salt. Wash and cut curry leaves and add in besan. Add oil and mix it properly.. Add curd if needed. Make a round shape and flatten it on a plate which perfectly covers the vessel in which we are cooking rice.



- When the rice is half done. Lower the flame and keep this plate of besan on rice. Besan side should be inside. Cook for 5 more minutes. Check the rice if it is cooked, switch off the flame.

- Serving suggestion..first serve rice in a plate. Crush a small part of Gola on the rice. Now heat some oil in a small kadhai, add mustard seeds and hing. When done add this tadka on rice. Serve with buttermilk or chinchecha Saar (boiled tamarind water in a tadka). Enjoy Gola bhaat.
